"You have given so much to Emma and Katie. Their success with the piano has been at the heart of their development through life. We cannot thank you enough and we are eternally grateful." Wendy D.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you so very much for the wonderful lessons that Charlotte has experienced with you. She has enjoyed every one and you have given her such enthusiasm and passion for her music. I hope you will allow me to email you with her future progress and I'd like to wish you all the very best of luck for your future, knowing that your future students will be very lucky to have such a caring, compassionate and enthusiastic teacher. Rebecca N.

Just a small note to acknowledge everything you have done for Jennifer since she started lessons with you. We have watched her confidence grow as she has developed her ability to play the piano. You will be truly missed, but I am so pleased we had the chance to have you in our life for this period and what you have taught Jennifer will stay with her for the rest of her life. Lynsey H.

You have given so much to Emma and Katie. They have benefited immensely, not only from your teaching but also from your demonstration of care and professionalism. Their success with the piano has been at the heart of their development through life. We cannot thank you enough and we are eternally grateful. Wendy D.

Thank you so much for being an amazing teacher and for helping me to get as far as I have with my piano. Jenny B.

What a lovely introduction I have had to the piano through your expertise. Angela E.

About me

About me

I'm Jenny Farr. I teach piano and music theory to children and adults.

I studied at the Birmingham School of Music and have two diplomas - GBSM (the Graduate diploma) and ABRSM (the Associate teaching diploma).

I'd always wanted to be a piano teacher and started directly after leaving college over 40 years ago. Wherever I've lived, I've started up a private teaching practice, so I've taught in Birmingham, Hertfordshire, Yorkshire and then in Norway before moving to Durham, where I taught for the last 10 years. In Norway, I also worked in an International School as Lower School music teacher and started up a choir there. I have recently moved to the North West and now teach privately at my home in Stoneclough (near Bolton).

I've been involved with the ABRSM exams and was the AB representative for Norway when I lived there, organising all their exams at that time.

I've had a lot of success with exams, both practical and theory, with most pupils passing with merits and distinctions. However, I don't insist on pupils taking exams as I realise that they're not for everyone. Our main objective will be to enjoy music making. I encourage parents to be involved in the process and parents are welcome to come in and listen whenever they like.

I have taught pupils of all ages, from beginners to more advanced pupils. I especially enjoy teaching beginners and I have had success with very young children. My youngest pupils have been aged 4 and the oldest have been in their sixties.

I'm a very keen theory teacher and include theory in all lessons, right from the start.

Beginners: £12.50 for a 30 min lesson

Advanced: £20 for a 45 min lesson

I always give a consultation lesson first so that the pupil (and parents) get to meet me and I can make sure I'm the kind of teacher they're looking for.
